FAQ
Does my yarn have to be 100% wool?
The yarn you use does not have to be 100% wool, but should still be warm and comfortable. Please use the type of yarn that you'd use on a knit for yourself or a loved one.
Are there any color restrictions on the yarn I use?
Please use darker colors of yarn when knitting due to the limited access to washing facilities in camps.
Can I send in hand-sewn items?
While our main focus is on knitted and crocheted items, we accept all handmade items, including hand-sewn quilts, masks, or clothing items.
Which items are most needed?
The most needed items are sweaters, socks/footwear, beanies, and blankets.
How and when will these items be sent to refugee camps?
We send the items to refugee camps through a partnership with Turkish Airlines. We coordinate with organizations and schools that have been working in the area to safely bring the items to camps and distribute them among refugees.
Can I start sending in items now? Is there a deadline to ship?
You can send in your items at any time. Our next collection deadline is March 12th, 2022.
Can I still donate during COVID-19?
According to the CDC, COVID-19 is thought to be spread mainly from person-to-person, and while it may be possible for someone to get COVID-19 by touching a contaminated surface or object, this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads. Furthermore, based on current research from the federal government’s coronavirus task force, the virus is said to have a longer shelf life on hard surfaces like metal and tabletops, and a far more limited shelf life on porous objects such as fabric, yarn, or cloth. Therefore, there is very little risk of transmission through these handmade items and you may continue to send us donations.
As always, please do not hesitate to email us at woollywishesorg [at] gmail [dot] com if you have additional questions.
